Our Story: Building a Stronger Future for Arizona Teachers

Tucson Values Teachers was founded in 2008 as an innovative education initiative of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council (SALC), a coalition of more than 150 local business presidents and executives. Recognizing the urgent need to support and retain quality teachers in Arizona, SALC partnered with education leaders, the University of Arizona, and philanthropic organizations to create a unique business-education partnership focused on strengthening the teacher workforce across Southern Arizona.

Our "Teachers-First" Approach

Decades of research confirm that quality teachers are the most important factor in student achievement and educational success. TVT was established to address Arizona’s teacher shortage and high turnover rates, with a mission to attract, retain, and celebrate exceptional educators in our region.

Facing the Teacher Workforce Challenge

Arizona has experienced a persistent teacher shortage, with fewer new teachers entering the profession and many leaving within their first few years. In a recent study, 42% of teachers hired in Arizona left the field in three years or less, and the state continues to face challenges in teacher recruitment and retention. TVT is dedicated to reversing this trend through effective communications, research, professional development opportunities, and direct classroom support.

Our Impact and Growth

Since our founding, TVT has invested millions of dollars in programs that provide classroom supplies, professional development scholarships, teacher recognition, and community engagement. By partnering with local businesses, foundations, and community leaders, we continue to champion the value of teachers and improve the quality of education in Southern Arizona.

Looking Ahead

With a renewed commitment reflected in our 2025 rebrand — including a new logo and user-friendly website — Tucson Values Teachers remains focused on empowering educators, supporting student success, and building a stronger future for Arizona’s schools.
