Congratulations to Carmela Zega! Ms. Zega–a 4th and 5th grade special education teacher at Sunrise Drive Elementary School in Catalina Foothills School District–received the October 2017 Teacher Excellence Award! She received flowers and a plaque from TVT, and school supplies along with a $100 gift card from Office Depot/OfficeMax!
Ms. Zega was nominated by Amie Bergersen, a former colleague at Sunrise Drive Elementary! In her nomination, Ms. Bergersen said, “Carmela Zega is a rockstar teacher. She works with students who need extra support, and is willing to work directly with classroom teachers to ensure the support she gives matches work they are doing in class, even if this creates more work for her. Ms. Zega helps all students, not just those on her caseload. She helps teachers discover strategies to help struggling students. If you need anything, whether it is a place to calm down, a snack to get you through the rest of the day, or a kind ear to listen, you can always count on Ms. Zega.”
