Teacher Excellence Award Winners

Aimee Carter-Jenkins, February 2023 Teacher Excellence Award Winner

Tucson Values Teachers (TVT) presented the February Teacher Excellence Award to Aimee Carter-Jenkins, a first-grade teacher at Borman K-8 School in Tucson Unified School District. Carter-Jenkins recently relocated to Tucson from the United Kingdom (UK). This is her first year teaching at Borman but has previously taught for 15 years in the UK.

After receiving the award, Carter-Jenkins said, “I absolutely love being a teacher! Borman has welcomed me to be my authentic, fun loving, passionate self. I have dyslexia and school was always a challenge for me growing up, but it took one teacher to see me, hear me and encourage me to be successful; in my own way, in my own time, and on my own path. I teach my children to have growth mindset, to communicate their thoughts and feelings and try to understand others from all backgrounds.”

Tucson Values Teachers received 13 nominations for Carter-Jenkins, many from parents of her students. In one nominating statement, Chris Dyer wrote, “Ms. Carter-Jenkins goes out of her way to make the children feel like they are the most important child in her life. She shows up to sporting events not affiliated with the school to show her support in everything the children do. She sends out daily pictures of what the class is doing and sends daily emails with class events for the current and upcoming weeks. She’s absolutely phenomenal!”
