Tucson Values Teachers (TVT) launched today as a new community partnership aimed at recognizing the important role of K-12 teacher’s in our region. In addition to building widespread awareness of the value of teachers, the initiative will also work to create a range of financial incentives aimed at transforming the region into a place that attracts, supports and retains the very best K-12 teachers in the nation.

A Tucson group formed to recruit, retain and reward K-12 teachers in Southern Arizona has initiated a partnership with OfficeMax to provide special recognition to local, deserving teachers.

Tucson Values Teachers Kicks Off School Supply Drive in Southern Arizona

Many Southern Arizona teachers are forced to buy school supplies with their own money, a dilemma that’s now the focus of a regional initiative involving local businesses and organizations.

Tucson Values Teachers is working with Walgreens drugstores throughout Pima County and Sierra Vista to host the first “Tucson Supplies Teachers” campaign. Each store will host collection boxes from Sept. 15 to Oct. 16 for the community to drop off items such as notebooks, pencils and crayons.

As Arizona’s K-12 teachers face potential cuts to the state’s education spending, more than 30 Southern Arizona-based companies have offered to reduce their costs for any district, private or charter school teacher working in the region.

Tucson Values Teachers Adds Businesses to K-12 Teacher Discount Card

Eight new businesses are now part of Tucson Values Teachers' (TVT) "$10,000 for 10,000" discount card program, which offers more than $10,000 in discounts to more than 10,000 K-12 district, private and charter school teachers in Pima, Cochise and Santa Cruz counties.

In addition, Tucson-area OfficeMax locations have expanded the scope of their original card discount. More than 9,000 items have a five to 15 percent discount, compared to the original 75 products. The company has also cut pricing for teachers on printing, binding and lamination services.

Tucson Values Teachers Hosts Downtown Block Party to Celebrate K-12 Teachers

Educational nonprofit Tucson Values Teachers (TVT) and other community organizations will celebrate educators and toast their significance at a large, public event in downtown Tucson.

"Toast to Teachers," an outdoor block party, will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 7 on Toole Avenue north of Congress Street, which will be closed off between the Cup Café at Hotel Congress and Maynards Market and Kitchen. Admission is free and vendors will be offering festive food. The Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Los Diablitos Azules Mariachi band from Sunnyside High School and other groups will perform.

Tucson Values Teachers Starts School Supply Drive with $25,000 Grant

Educational non-profit Tucson Values Teachers and Walgreens drugstores throughout Southern Arizona are spearheading the second "Tucson Supplies Teachers" campaign to prevent teachers from being forced to buy school supplies with their own money.

A $25,000 grant from the Tucson-based non-profit Community Finance Corporation kick-started the drive to purchase supplies for teachers to use in the 2010-2011 school year.
